Wastewater is all the water that goes down drains or enters the collection system. The average American contributes from 70 to 200 gallons of wastewater to the system each day. This includes water from baths, showers, sinks, dishwashers, washing machines and toilets.

Helpful Hints & Tips that can help save you money on your bill and reduce your sewer rates:

1. Bath vs. Shower:

  • It takes about (30) gallons of water to take a bath with a full tub compared to (18) gallons of water using a low flow showerhead to take a five minute shower.

2. Dripping Faucets:

  • Several drops can make a puddle.
  • Stop faucets from leaking.
  • Avoid wasting water.
  • Have leaks repaired.

SINK

3. Don’t pour grease down your drain!!

  • Used grease will harden inside pipes.
  • Grease will block your drains and cause stoppages in the sewer system.
  • Put unwanted grease in sealed garbage containers.
  • Keep grease out of your drains, sinks, and toilets.
  • Remember: Oil and water don’t mix!

4. Never wash dishes with the tap running!

  • A running tap uses (2-5) gallons of water each minute, only turn on the tap when you ready to rinse.

5. Don’t waste water!!

  • It takes (7) gallons of water to flush a toilet. Do not flush unnecessarily!
